
Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Thailand and Laoshave agreed to strengthen cooperation on drug prevention and suppression topromote peace and cooperation in the border regions of the two countries.
The two countries attended the 25th Thai-LaoGeneral Border Committee (GBC) Meeting in Bangkok, co-chaired by Deputy PrimeMinister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan and Lao National Defence Minister Lt GenChansamone Chanyalath.
Before the meeting, the two officials met todiscuss cooperation on various security policies.
The meeting agreed on a joint framework tomaintain peace along the Thai-Lao border, which consists of deploying armedborder patrols; prisoner transfer agreements; efforts to prevent the smugglingof contraband, drugs, and human trafficking; and joint national securitycooperation.
Furthermore, the air forces of both countriesagreed for the first time to measures to enhance drug prevention andsuppression efforts by establishing a joint border committee.-NNT/VNA
