Bangkok (NNT/VNA) –
Thailand has marked the 14th anniversary of the tsunami that ravaged six provinces along the Andaman Sea as well as countries throughout the region.

Deputy Governor of Phang Nga Pongsak Karnwanon led civil servants, private sector representatives, citizens and foreign visitors in commemorating the disaster at the province’s Tsunami Memorial Park.

The ceremony included religious activities spanning the three faiths of Buddhism, Islam and Christianity, a message from the Prime Minister and a presentation of flowers in front of a wall devoted to the deceased, including Khun Poom Jensen, a child of Princess Ubolratana.

Similar proceedings took place at the Tsunami Memorial Wall in Phuket province, where participants observed a minute of silence for those lost in the catastrophe across 45 countries. The wall contains the remains of those still unidentified after losing their lives due to the tsunami and symbolises remembrance of all who died in the disaster. – NNT/VNA
