Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Eight organisations under the Academic and Professional Network in Thailand have signed a joint declaration against misinformation.

The eight organisations which signed the joint declaration against misinformation included the Fund for Safe and Creative Media, National Press Council, Thai Health Promotion Foundation, Thai PBS, Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Communication Arts, Thammasat University’s Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication, Online News Providers Association and Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.

The joint declaration refers to the promotion, support and cooperation for concerted movement against misinformation at all levels of society, the promotion and support for national policy against misinformation, the promotion, support and development of research and education on counter-misinformation, the development and innovation of mechanisms to prevent and solve problems related to misinformation and the promotion for the public to keep abreast with information and digital technology.

Wasant Phaileeklee, manager of the Fund for Safe and Creative Media, said false information has been found in the world’s digital society and fast-developing social media. Many people send messages may not have been checked out and may have contained negative, false information.

The eight-organisation Academic and Professional Network has been prepared to create mechanisms to counter misinformation before any messages may be shared online. – NNT/VNA
