Thailand’s tourism sector aims to receive 27.8 million tourists in 2015, up 12.2 percent against last year, as the political instability in Bangkok has been solved.
The country has been put under martial law since the coup in May last year. However, the government has made great efforts in attracting more tourists.
Its revenue from foreign tourists is predicted to reach 1.4 trillion THB (44 million USD) this year.
To reach this goal, from the beginning of the year, the country has implemented numerous campaigns to promote tourism, with the opening of the 2015 festival tourism programme, which used to be launched in June every year.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) also launched a programme called the “2015 Discover Thainess” with a view to recovering the sector and earning roughly 2.2 trillion THB (69 million USD) from it.
The Thai tourism sector, which accounts for 10 percent of the country’s GDP, aims to welcome 7 million tourists from the ASEAN region and 5 million from China in 2015.-VNA
