Hanoi (VNA) – Thailand’s police have tightened security in Bangkok and nearby provinces following an intelligence report on possible car bomb attacks later this month, a senior police officer said.
There was some information on a possibility that a group may plot car bomb attacks in Bangkok and nearby provinces during October 25-30, Deputy National Police Chief Srivara Ransibrahmanakul told a press conference after an urgent meeting with representatives from various police units.
Tourist attractions and shopping centres’ parking lots would be the attacks’ targets, he added.
He added attackers might come from Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces in southernmost Thailand.
There will be extra-tight security at tourism spots, embassies, symbolic venues and vulnerable places.
Police in all areas were directed to raise vigilance and check every suspicious means of transport.-VNA
