The Thai Automotive Industry Association (TAIA) has been selected to host the International Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) meeting on October 21-23.
According to TAITA President Thanawat Kumsin, this year’s event will see automobile manufacturers from 38 countries gathering to find measures to improve the auto industry worldwide, such as developing new safety technologies, reducing environmental impact and improving fuel efficiency.
The meeting will also serve as a means to enhance Thailand’s contribution to the automobile industry and potentially boost tourism and the domestic economy.
As for the increase in excise tax for new automobiles which is to take effect next January, Thanawat said the hike would increase the prices of certain models but would pose no negative effec ts on the country’s automobile industry, as the tax increase coincides with increased product quality and environmental friendliness.-VNA
