The Thai Department of Tourism will set up a Tourist Protection Fund to provide compensation for tourists in trouble.
The Department of Tourism's Deputy Director-General Promchote Traiwet disclosed that compensation in cash will be provided out of the Fund for tourists in trouble allegedly caused by travel agents. Such compensation pays range from 10,000 THB (280 USD) to 200,000 THB (5,600 USD), he said.
There have been cases in which travel agents had allegedly failed to provide accommodations to their customers as earlier agreed upon, leaving the tourists stranded or losing their money earlier paid to the travel firms.
