Bangkok (VNA) – Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha, said on April 12 that he plans to end the ban on political party gatherings ahead of next year’s elections.

This was the first time Prayut had confirmed civilian parties will be able to meet in the run-up to elections.

The official did not unveil any poll dates or state when the restrictions will be lifted.

He told reporters that the election process will begin in 2018, adding that a cremation ceremony for late King Bhumibol Aduyadej must be held, most likely in late October this year.
