Thailand to present New Year gifts to foreign tourists

Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha eyes to boost tourism in 2015 by offering special incentives to overseas tourists who are about to leave Thailand on the occasion of the New Year 2015.

After a meeting with Gen Prayut, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, revealed that the incentives will be offered to foreign tourists from all markets and groups. However, information on the gifts is yet to be disclosed.

For local tourists, the minister said long-term plans have been implemented to boost tourism throughout the year. The ministry has cooperated with the Thai Bankers’ Association to exempt service charges for cash withdrawals from ATMs of the same bank at any branches across Thailand .

Similarly, BTS will extend its service until 2 am on December 31, 2014 and January 1, 2015 to create more convenience for New Year revellers.

According to Director General of the Tourism Department Arnupap Gaesornsuwan, Thailand is expected to achieve its target of luring 25 million tourists this year, earning 1.8 trillion THB.-VNA
