Bangkok (VNA) – The Trade andInvestment Framework Agreement Joint Council of Thailand and the United Statesdiscussed goals of the bilateral strategic economic cooperation in Bangkok onApril 3.

This was the first official economicmeeting between the two countries under the administration of US PresidentDonald Trump.

Boonyarit Kalayanamit , Head of the TradeNegotiation Department under Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce, said that themeeting offered opportunities for both countries to discuss the strategicpartnership on areas of mutual concern, particularly trade, investment, humanresources development, innovation and research.

The meeting also helped Thailand understandUS trade and investment policies and address current issues, such as Thailand’srequest to be part of US General Schemes of Preference treatment for travel goods.

On the occasion, Thailand also reportedachievements in intellectual property, labour and ivory trade control under theConvention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES).-VNA
