Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand's e-commerce, excludingbusiness-to-business engagement, is expected to grow 35 percent to 220 billionTHB (nearly 7 billion USD) in 2020.

Local media quoted Thanawat Malabuppha, ChiefExecutive of price comparison shopping website Priceza and President of theThailand e-Commerce Association, as saying that in the post-COVID-19 world, theonline channel and e-commerce are no longer an alternative option, but rather ameans of survival.

The country's e-commerce throughbusiness-to-consumer and consumer-to-consumer is projected to jump to 220billion baht in 2020, accounting for 4-5 percent of total retail.

Thanawat estimated e-commerce could reach 25percent of Thailand's total retail, similar to China, in 5-10 years.

In 2019, e-commerce retail sales were valued at163 billion THB, making up 3 percent of total retail. E-marketplace valueaccounted for 47 percent of e-commerce, followed by social media 38 percent andbrands' own websites 15 percent./.
