Thailand will continue to safeguard its citizens against Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers) and other new diseases.
Accordingto Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yuthawong, a meeting on new diseaseprevention was recently held to reinforce the country’s protectionsystem.
The public health system will undergo several changes onboth national and community levels to make sure Thai people are as safeas possible and protected from all kinds of diseases whether they bebird flu, Ebola, Sars or Mers.
No Mers outbreak or other newinfections have been found in Thailand. The Deputy Prime Minister added,however, that Thailand still remains at risk as a large number offoreigners visit the nation each year from all parts of the world.
PublicHealth Minister Dr. Ratchata Ratchatanawin also revealed that there isno meningococcal disease either, following the recent death of a 26 yearold man.
Preventative measures were stepped up soon after hisdeath and medicines have been distributed to 271 people who were closeto him to make sure the disease does not spread any further.-VNA
