Thanh Hoa: fishermen learn sea law

A training course on legal regulations on seas and islands was held in the north central coastal province of Thanh Hoa on May 3, seeking to raise local fishermen’s awareness of abiding by the sea-related law and protecting sea resources.

Thanh Hoa (VNA) – A training course on legal regulations on seas andislands was held in the north central coastal province of Thanh Hoa on May 3, seekingto raise local fishermen’s awareness of abiding by the sea-related law andprotecting sea resources.

The course was jointly held by the Border Guard Command of the north centralcoastal province of Thanh Hoa, the Regional Maritime Search and RescueCoordination Centre No.1 and competent authorities.

Fishermen in Sam Son city and Quang Xuong district were informed of thenational sovereignty in the East Sea and other waters.

Besides, they got updated with basic contents of the law on national border,law of the sea of Vietnam, and Directive No.45/CT-TTg dated December 13, 2017on urgent tasks and solutions to recover the European Commission’s warning onVietnamese seafood for failing to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated(IUU) fishing, and Directive 689/CT-TTg dated May 18, 2010 on measures to minimiseand prevent foreign arrest of Vietnamese fishing boats.

The move is expected to help local fishermen thoroughly grasp Vietnam’s sea-relatedlegal regulations to avoid committing violations while fishing.

Furthermore, the fishermen were asked not to use explosives and destructivefishing gear to catch fish, and steer clear of disputes relating to fishingground, causing disorder at the sea.

Thanh Hoa has a 102-kilometre long coastline, with six coastal districts. Some28,000 labourers have joined fishing activities.-VNA
