HCM City (VNA) - The Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) has cooperated with Goethe Institute to restage the opera The Magic Flute, scheduled for June 30 and July 1 at the city Opera House.

The opera is about the love story of Prince Tamino and Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night. After Pamina was held in captivity under the high priest Sarastro, the Queen of the Night persuades Tamino to rescue her daughter.

The work includes music by Mozart and lyrics by poet Emanuel Schikaneder.

The production premiered in 1791 in Vienna, and has been staged by hundreds of theatre companies in the world, including the The Metropolitan Opera, Opéra National de Paris, and Deutsche Opera Berlin.

In Vietnam, The Magic Flute premiered in late 2013 with the support of Norway’s Transposition Programme. It has been directed by French-German Director David Hermann since 2014.

In 2016, thanks to the support of Goethe Institute, HBSO worked with vocal master Askan Siegfried Geisler and language coaches Cornelia Schwind and Doan Hai Vu to perform the opera in its original language of German.

This year, Geisler will continue to offer vocal training to HBSO artists.

The opera will feature Nguyen Khanh Ngoc (playing the Queen of the Night), Pham Trang (Prince Tamino), Pham Duyen Huyen, and Cho Hae Ryong (Pamina) from the Republic of Korea.

HBSO vocalists, musicians and dancers will also perform in the opera, led by Vietnamese conductor Tran Nhat Minh.-VNA
