Hanoi (VNA) – A total of 34 traffic accidents occurred across the country, claiming 21 lives and leaving 23 injured on April 30, the first day of the four-day holiday, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC).

Of which, 33 accidents on roads killed 20 and injured 22 while the remaining accident happened on railway, killing one and injuring one.

The road traffic police nationwide dealt with 5,400 violations and collected 3.5 billion VND in fines while the waterway traffic police handled 507 cases with total fines of 268.2 million VND.

On April 30, the NTSC also received nearly 150 calls and messages complaining about the increase of prices, overloaded coaches and traffic congestion.

In order to ensure traffic safety and order, the NTSC recommended ministries and local traffic safety committees to continue taking drastic measures to implement the Prime Minister’s instructions on ensuring traffic safety during the country’s holidays, including the Hung Kings Temple festival and April 30-May 1.-VNA
