As a poor household with difficult circumstances, Tho Mi Sung’s family lived in a shack halfway up the mountain. They are now going to enjoy a better life, however, as a concrete house is being built for them. Together with financial aid of around 2,600 USD, Sung’s family also received support to build the house from soldiers with Meo Vac district’s military high command.
The programme on building houses for poor veterans and people who rendered service to the nation and impoverished households was launched in July 2019 by Ha Giang province. It has mobilised the participation of the entire political system and received an enthusiastic response from the community and support from the armed forces in the locality.
The above programme has come to life and serves as a practical measure to ensure the social welfare of the poor in Ha Giang province, and also helps reinforce the national solidarity bloc. After two years of implementation, the programme has helped build more than 5,100 houses at a total cost of some 600 billion VND (26 million USD).
The newly-built houses have given poor ethnic minority people the motivation to promote production and enhance social order in the country’s northernmost province./.
