The central province of Thua Thien-Hue has launched a number of new international and local tours to promote tourism potential of Hue imperial city and other destinations in the central regions in foreign countries.
The Hue-Bangkok tour launched last week forms part of key activities to connect tourism products of the central relic site with the world’s heritages, including Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Seoul in the Republic of Korea, and the ancient capital of Kyoto in Japan.
The Central Heritage Road is among tours connecting the central cities of Hue and Da Nang and central Quang Nam province to fully tap the tourism potential in the central region. It has been promoted at several international tourism trade fairs in Seoul, the RoK.
The tour connects the UNESCO-recognised tangible and intangible world’s heritages, including the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh, the Complex of Hue Monuments, the “nha nhac” (royal court music) in the ancient Hue citadel of central Hue city, the Hoi An ancient town and the My Son Sanctuary in Quang Nam province, among other beautiful landscapes in Da Nang.
Hue imperial city has upgraded hundreds of key architectural works since it was recognised by the UNESCO as world cultural heritages in 2003.
The Hue Relics Preservation Centre plans to restore 22 relic sites this year at a total cost of 150 billion VND (7 million USD), including the royal tombs of the kings of the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945).
The projects are part of the programme to preserve and protect the Complex of Hue Monuments, worth nearly 10 million USD and funded by 26 international governments and organisations.
Thue Thien-Hue is also focused on preserving intangible cultural values while improving the quality of traditional art performances, rituals, and tourism facilities. It also offers discounts and organises exhibitions to lure more tourists.
Four golden tourism weeks have been launched this year in Hue city to lure more tourists. The first two took place in April and June this year and the other two are expected to be held from September 2-8 to mark the 70th anniversary of National Day (September 2), and from December 24-30 to welcome the 2016 New Year.
The province will accelerate construction of road facilities including the Dien Bien Phu road leading to relic sites in the southwest of the city, the tunnel under the Phuoc Tuong and Phu Gia pass, and a waterways facility system.
Other investment will be focused on upgrades to a number of items in the centre as well as museums, international flights, and external promotion campaigns carried out in Hong Kong (China), the RoK and Japan.
In the first half of this year, the province welcomed nearly 1.6 million tourists including 572,000 foreigners and earned 1.4 trillion VND (65.4 million USD), up 2 percent from the same period last year, according to Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Hue Relics Preservation Centre.
The centre itself received nearly 1.1 million visitors, half of who were international tourists, receiving more than 100 billion VND (4.67 million USD).-VNA
