 Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – The central province of Thua Thien-Hue on December 22 helda ceremony to honour winners of a writing contest on history of Vietnam-Laosspecial relations.

The contest was launched in response to a national-scale competition initiatedby the Commission for Information and Education under the Communist Party ofVietnam (CPV) Central Committee.

It received 30,000 entries from local officials, Party members and people fromall walks of life.

One first, one second, one third andtwo consolation prizes were presented to units. Meanwhile, in the individualcategory, one first, two second, three third and seven consolidation prizeswere also announced. The 30 top entries were also selected for the national-levelcontest.

Addressing the event, Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee BuiThanh Ha stressed the significance of the contest, saying it helped tightensolidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

There will be more practical activities in Thua Thien-Hue to consolidate relationsbetween Vietnam and Laos as well as between Thua Thien-Hue and Lao provinceswith which it shares the border such as Salavan and Sekong, and others, hesaid.-VNA

19 localities eradicate substandard houses

Four more provinces have announced the completion of efforts to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing, bringing the total number of localities achieving this milestone to 19 out of 63 nationwide, according to the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs.

Vietnam accelerates repatriation of citizens detained in Myanmar

On April 8, 28, and May 14, three groups comprising a total of 471 citizens safely returned to Vietnam. This marked an important initial success, paving the way for additional repatriation efforts later this month, with the goal of bringing all remaining Vietnamese citizens stranded in Myawaddy, Myanmar, back home as soon as possible.
