Tigers’ bodies found in wine tank

A man in Duc Trong district in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong has been discovered in possession of two dead tigers, according to Phan Van Thong, head of the local police.

LamDong (VNA) - A man in Duc Trong district in the Central Highlandsprovince of Lam Dong has been discovered in possession of two dead tigers,according to Phan Van Thong, head of the local police.

On September 5, theEnvironmental Crime Division under the provincial Department of Public Securityworked with Duc Trong district’s Public Security Division to discover thebodies of two tigers at Huy Hoang 2 furniture workshop, owned by 32-year-old VoAnh Huy in Phu Hoi ward’s Chi Rong village.

During inspection, policefound a tiger’s body infused in wine, while another was stored in a freezer.The bodies were subsequently transferred to Duc Trong district’s PublicSecurity Division.

Huy admitted that he boughtthe two tigers to present as gifts.

Thong said the districtpolice would collaborate with the forest protection department to conductforensic tests on the two bodies.

Tiger infused in wine isbelieved to treat bone, joint and muscle diseases, and is often seen as aninvaluable gift in Vietnam.  

However, according to NguyenXuan Huong, former president of Vietnam Orientally Traditional MedicineAssociation, the benefits of consuming tiger have not been proven.

Tigers are listed asendangered wild animals. According to Vietnam’s Penal Code, the poaching, killing,and trading of endangered wild animals are illegal and offenders may face up toseven-year imprisonment.-VNA
