Top 10 outstanding youths announced

Ten winners were announced in Hanoi on March 18 for the Outstanding Young Citizens awards sponsored by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Young Talent Support Fund.
Ten winners were announced in Hanoi on March 18 for the OutstandingYoung Citizens awards sponsored by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Unionand the Young Talent Support Fund.

The honouredindividuals include Pham Tuan Huy from the University of NaturalScience under the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi MinhCity , who won two golds at the International Math Olympiad in 2013 and2014; and Phan Minh Liem – President of the Graduate Student Associationof the Texas University’s Anderson Cancer Centre.

Three outstanding figures in business and production sectors are DaNang-born fisherman Le Van Sang – who owns the biggest number of fishingand logistic trawlers in the central region of Vietnam; Trang Seo Pao –Vice Chairman of the Hoang Thu Pho commune, Bac Ha district, northernLao Cai province; and Nguyen Van Son – Director of the Thai Nguyenbranch of the military telecommunication group Viettel.

Le Trung Thanh – captain of the ship CSB 4033 of the Coast GuardRegion 2 Command in central Quang Nam province; and Major Phan ManhHung – Head of the drug crime investigation section of Nghe An PoliceDepartment, were honoured in the field of defence and security.

Others on the list are weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan - who set two newworld records at the World Junior Championships in Athletics in Kazan,the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia in 2014; Quach Hoang Nhi – a fifthgrader at the Nam Thanh Cong primary school who has won tens of medalsat piano competitions at home and abroad; and Dr. Nguyen Ba Hai – alecturer at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education.

First launched in 1996, the awards aim to honouroutstanding Vietnamese individuals at home and abroad who makeremarkable achievements in the fields of studying, scientific research,production and business, national security, defence, culture, art,sports and social activities.

The awarding ceremony will be held in Hanoi on March 28.-VNA

Truong Huy San, 64, residing in Ho Chi Minh City, has been prosecuted for “abusing the rights to freedom and democracy to violate interests of the State, rights and legitimate interests of organisations and individuals” under Article 331 of the Penal Code.

Vietnam conducts citizen protection in Japan assault

The labour management board at the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan on February 12 contacted labour unions to gather updates and implement citizen protection measures for a Vietnamese worker who was assaulted by a Japanese national.
