Marrakech (VNA) National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met with Governor of Morocco’s Marrakech prefecture Karim Kassi Lahlou on March 29 nigh (local time) as part of her visit to the African country.

During the meeting, the top legislator informed her host about the development of cooperative ties between Vietnam and Morocco, saying the bilateral political ties are developing fruitfully.

She highlighted the close relations between the two countries during the past struggles for national liberation as well as their mutual support at international forums at present.

Ngan expressed her wish that Marrakech will set up friendship and twining relationship with some Vietnamese localities sharing similarities like the ancient capital city of Hue.

The leader also urged the Moroccan Ambassador to Vietnam and the Vietnamese Ambassador to Morocco to step up the connectivity.

She lauded Marrakech’s urban architecture management and congratulated the city on its hosting big international events.

For his part, Karim Kassi Lahlou said Ngan’s visit offers a chance to enhance the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and Morocco.

Through the visit, Marrakech’s authorities have learned about opportunities and potential to intensify cooperation with Vietnam, he added.

According to the Governor, Marrakech is taking the lead in Morocco in terms of foreign affairs.

The thousands-year-old city has been seen as Morocco’s capital of tourism, welcoming 2.6 million international tourist arrivals last year or one third of the total number of foreign holiday-makers to the country.

Besides, Marrakech is also the city of knowledge and technology with many major universities, and an economic centre that has attracted many big investors, he said, noting his hope that Marrakech will have opportunities to cooperate with Vietnam and Vietnamese firms in the areas of its potential.

Karim Kassi Lahlou said he anticipates exploring Vietnam’s Hue city and promoting the establishment of the twining relationship between Marrakech and the city.-VNA
