Hanoi (VNA) –The National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam and Lao should continue promoting coordination towards effectively implementing high-ranking cooperation agreements between the two countries, suggested the visiting Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.

During a meeting with NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan in Hanoi on May 15, the Lao guest called for Vietnam’s assistance for his country to well complete its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2016.

Informing the host of outcomes of his talks with Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Thongloun Sisoulith said the two sides discussed measures to concretise high-ranking agreements agreed between the two nations.

He affirmed that he will do his best to realise the contents of the Vietnam-Laos Joint Statement, which was signed on the occasion of Lao General Secretary and President Bounnhang Volachit’s recent official visit to Vietnam.

Thongloun Sisoulith also wished that Vietnam would hold the upcoming 14 th NA and all-level People’s Council elections successfully.

For her part, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan asserted that Vietnam is always willing to help Laos well perform its post of 2016 ASEAN Chair, adding that she will do her utmost to promote the time-honoured relations between the two nations and legislative bodies.

The Vietnamese top legislator expressed her hope that the two legislatures will further enhance links and experience sharing, especially in building institutions and the legal system, and supervising law enforcement.

The two agencies should also boost their monitoring related to investment and cooperation projects between the two countries, thus serving respective socio-economic development and fulfilling this year’s Government cooperation plan, Ngan stated.

She took the occasion to thank the Lao Party and Government for their decision to increase the water discharge at hydropower dams built on the Mekong River in order share with Vietnam’s difficulties of water shortage, and Laos’ recent material support to help Vietnam’s south localities overcome consequences and damages caused by prolong-droughts and saline intrusion, describing these as vivid manifestations of Vietnam-Laos special solidarity.-VNA
