Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with voters in Tay Ho district, Hanoi on August 11 to report the results of the first session of the 13th National Assembly and listen to their opinions and concerns.
General Secretary Trong highlighted the role of meeting with voters and said he wished the voters will continue to offer concise comments, helping the NA and deputies to competently perform their functions and duties in line with the law, including functions of law making, supreme supervision, decision-making on national matters, as well as enhancing external relations and ties between the Party and the NA and people.
He shared the same view with opinions of voters on further increasing the quality of legal work to ensure laws are promptly translated and meet the requirements of society. The Party leader agreed on the need to further enhance the NA’s supervision in an effective and efficient manner.
Voters welcomed the results of elections of the 13th NA and the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2011-2016 term. Almost all elected deputies possess high qualifications, competence and morality that are important conditions for the National Assembly to fulfil its tasks.
Many voters expressed their worry about issues such as education reform, lack of pre-schools, advertisements on TV, overwhelming construction of sugar refineries, cement plants, golf courses and airports.
The voters welcomed the Party and the State’s attention to training and developing younger cadres, caring for the people’s living conditions, especially those in remote areas, as well as social security policies.
Regarding the East Sea issue, they expressed their wish to maintain peace and stability for national construction.
Also the same day, State President Truong Tan Sang met with voters in district 4, Ho Chi Minh City .
He highlighted the importance of the behaviour and attitude of agencies at all levels in fighting corruption, wastefulness and bureaucracy and practising thrift, because, he said, “we have the law on anti-corruption and wastefulness”.
According to the President, the Party and State are aware of the importance of anti-corruption and wastefulness and have implemented the work for many years. But results are not satisfactory so voters’ concern about the work is appropriate.
The law will be considered for amendment to further meet requirements, he said.
At the meeting, voters expressed their pleasure with the success of the first session of the 13 th NA, and highly valued the personnel work at the session, saying that the election of the new board of leaders creates confidence and delight for voters nationwide.
They expressed a wish that deputies will keep and fulfil their commitment to the people.
The voters emphasised the role and function of the NA, asking the 13th NA to step up law-making and increase supervision.
They also expressed their concern about the East Sea issue, foreign violations of national sovereignty and territory.
Discussing the sea and island issue, the President affirmed that national sovereignty and sovereignty over sea and islands are sacred for any country, highlighting the Party and State’s consistent viewpoints and policies of maintaining independence and national territorial sovereignty, at the same time maintaining an environment of peace, to serve the national industrialisation and modernisation.
Meeting both issues requires correct policy and the determination to protect national territorial sovereignty through peaceful talks based on international law, he said./.
