Hanoi (VNA) – More than 2,400 Camry 2.0E sedans, manufactured by Japanese car maker Toyota from April 6, 2015- April 1, 2016, will be recalled for updates of engine control unit software.

In its announcement on May 16, Toyota Motors Vietnam (TMV) said that the recalls will be carried out at its showrooms nationwide from May 16 and free software upgrades will take 0.7-1.4 hour for each vehicle.

According to Toyota Motor Corporation, the cars were equipped with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves, which allow some of the gases produced within the combustion process to be re-burnt within the combustion chamber for a second time to reduce the formation of harmful nitrous oxide particulates.

If engine control unit software is not programmed properly for the operation of the EGR valves, the gases will continue to circulate and fall into the combustion chamber, leading to engine failure when the drivers reduce speed.

Earlier on May 12, the TMV issued a recall notice for 133 Lexus ES 250 and ES 350 cars to fix a brake problem, as part of a larger global recall of a number of Toyota models.

The vehicles, produced from September 10, 2015 to February 18, 2016, were imported from Japan and officially supplied by TMV.

The check and replacement of the brake actuator is set to take place at Lexus-Thang Long centre in Ha Noi and Lexus-Saigon Centre in HCM City.-VNA
