According to the Office Chief of the National Committee for Traffic Safety Nguyen Trong Thai, a total of 5,508 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, killing 2,667 people and injuring 3,965 others.
The number of traffic accidents, death and injuries fell by 18.75 percent, 14.74 percent and 24.53 percent, respectively, compared with the same period last year.
Among the accidents, 3,069 happened on roads, claiming 2,603 lives and injuring 1,536 others. Meanwhile, 36 people were killed and seven others were injured in 36 accidents on railways.
In January – May, 32 accidents occurred on waterways, killing 31 and injuring four others. Five sea accidents were reported in the reviewed period, claiming two lives./.
