Hanoi (VNA) – TheNational Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) in its latestreport that typhoon Doksuri was spotted in the waters of central Ha Tinh, QuangBinh and Quang Tri province by 8 am on September 15.
It said winds at the typhoon’s eyes hit 150km per hour as strongest.
Earlier, thenational weather forecasting centre upgraded Typhoon Doksuri barreling towardVietnam from level 11 to 12 (of 18), with winds at its eye expected to reach150km per hour.
Doksuri,said to be the strongest typhoon in a decade, is forecast to make landfallbetween this afternoon and evening. It will directly hit Nghe An, Ha Tinh,Quang Binh and Quang Tri in Vietnam’s central region.
The impacts of Typhoon Doksuri killed one person and left anothermissing in Phong Dien district in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue, announcedTrinh Duc Hung, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee on September 15.
Ngo Van Hien, from Luu Hien Hoa village, Phong My commune, diedafter being washed away when collecting rubber on September 14.
Meanwhile, forces have been deployed to search for athree-year-old child from Dien Loc commune who went missing when playing on thebeach.
The storm also unroofed 31 houses in Trung Thanh village,Phong Chuong Commune in the district, while trees in Xuan Phu ward, Hue city werefelled.
Heavy rains were reported to hit Tuyen Hoa(Quang Binh) with 195mm, Nam Dong and A Luoi (Thua Thien-Hue) with 150 mm and170 mm, and Khe Sanh (Quang Tri) with 125mm.
Quang Tri province evacuated 6,506 households with 20,126 people to safe placesand called for 2,312 fishing vessels with 7,500 people on board to come tostorm shelters.-VNA
