The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on September 17 handed over 456 plastic water storage tanks to seven impoverished districts in the northeastern mountainous province of Cao Bang, one of those bearing the full brunt of Typhoon Yagi.

Authorities in Lao Cai province are rapidly mobilising machinery, manpower, and materials to build temporary shelters for survivors of the devastating flash floods in Lang Nu village (Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district). Within the next 2-3 days, 25 homes are expected to be completed at the site of the village’s old cultural centre, where the residents will be relocated.

The northern port city of Hai Phong, which was among those bearing the brunt of Typhoon Yagi, is now sparing no efforts to recover, with businesses in local industrial zones accelerating the restoration of production to avoid disruptions to supply chains.

On the afternoon of September 16, despite challenging road conditions, trucks carrying essential relief supplies continued to make their way to the flood-hit people in Bao Yen district in the mountainous province of Lao Cai.

Typhoon Yagi has caused severe destruction across northern Vietnam, leading to heavy rain, flash floods, and widespread flooding in the northern mountainous regions. In response to the extensive damage and loss of life, emergency relief efforts and community support initiatives have been mobilised nationwide to aid affected residents and help them recover from the disaster.

On September 14, the Youth Union and the Communication Development Centre of the Vietnam News Agency visited and supported flood-affected residents in the northern province of Phu Tho.

A helicopter of Regiment 916 of the Air Defence-Air Force Service's Air Division 371 took off at Hoa Lac Airport in Hanoi September 12 to carry out rescue missions and transport essential supplies to flood-affected areas in Nguyen Binh district, of the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang.
