Da Nang (VNA) - The 2017 U15 International Football Challenge Cup funded by the Thieu Nien Tien Phong Plastic JSC kicked off in the central city of Da Nang from June 14 with four teams from Vietnam, Taiwan (China), Myanmar, and Indonesia competing.
Opening the event, Le Hoai Anh, General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation and head of the organising board said that the tournament aims to develop a new generation of players for Vietnam’s national team.
The tournament is part of Vietnam’s preparations for the U15 Southeast Asia Football Championship 2017 and the U16 Asia U16 Championship, he added.
The winner of the tournament will be awarded with a trophy, gold medals and 3,000 USD in cash. Second and third place will receive cash worth 1,500 USD and 1,000 USD respectively.
The organising board will also honour the top scorer, best player, best goalkeeper and best referee.
Following the opening ceremony, a match between U15 Vietnam and U15 Taipei (China) took place with Vietnam triumphing 5-2.
Vietnam will meet U15 Indonesia on June 16.
The tournament will run until June 18 at the Hoa Xuan Stadium in Cam Le district. Tickets for all games are free.-VNA
