The UK hopes to develop urban railway projects and expand Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
David Puttnam, special envoy of the UK Prime Minister, made the remark at a working session with Vice Chairwoman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Hong in the City on October 29.
HCM City has a large population and economic potential, he said, adding that the construction of urban railways with large capacities was necessary for the City’s long-term development.
The UK was willing to share experience and invest in the field, he confirmed.
He noted that the UK was ready to help Vietnam and HCM City develop high-quality human resources.
Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Hong said local authorities welcomed UK businesses to study and invest in railway projects in the city.
She noted that the City started building the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien Railway, and called on businesses to invest in other railway projects.
The City was integrating into the global economy, so it hoped to receive co-operation and assistance from other countries, including the UK, in various fields such as infrastructure, finance, banking and public-private co-operation, she said.
She expressed her hope that programmes on education and training between the UK and Ho Chi Minh City would move forward.-VNA
