Hanoi (VNA) – General Secretary of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon will attend a peace conference in Myanmar or the 21st century Panglong conference this month, an official and a rebel group said on August 22.

Five-day event is slated to kick off on August 31.

Zaw Htay, Deputy Director General of the President's Office, said Myanmar invited the UN Secretary General as he would like to attend.

Saw Kwe Htoo Win from the Karen National Union, one of the largest rebel groups, confirmed the UN Secretary General would attend and give a speech.
