Union leaders awarded Lao Order

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) President, Dang Ngoc Tung, has been presented with the Labour Order, First Class, by the Lao State.
The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) President, Dang NgocTung, has been presented with the Labour Order, First Class, by the LaoState.

His five deputies and two other senior officials of the organisationwere awarded the Second Class of the Labour Order, all for theircontributions to trade union development in Laos.

Theaward presentation was held recently in Hanoi, on the occasion of avisit to Vietnam from February 23-28 by a delegation of the LaoFederation of Trade Unions (LFTU), led by its President Khamla Lolonsy.

During their stay, the Lao guests held talks with thehost delegation led by its President, Dang Ngoc Tung, who pledged touphold the special relations between the two union organisations.

“Trade union organisations of the two countries have been followingteachings of Vietnam’s first President Ho Chi Minh and Lao’s firstPresident Kayson Phomvihane in cultivating friendship between the twocountries,” said the VGCL leader. He quoted President Ho as saying onthe relations that “Vietnam-Laos relations are as deep as waters of theRed and Mekong rivers”.

In response, Khamla Lolonsyexpressed thanks to Vietnamese unionists for their assistance inpersonnel training for Lao unionists through short-term and long-termcourses, curricular supply for several vocational colleges, constructionof trade union colleges and labour safety measures.

The Lao trade union leader called for further exchange of visits betweenthe two union organisations in order to boost relations and shareexperiences between unionists from the two countries.

He also looked for stronger international cooperation and Vietnam’s assistance in personnel training for Lao’s unionists./.

Public order crime drops 22.55% in first half

In the field of economic crime, 2,096 cases involving 4,194 suspects were prosecuted in the first half. For corruption and position-related crimes, 370 cases and 1,042 suspects were brought to trial. Meanwhile, police uncovered 11,687 drug-related cases involving 22,863 individuals.
