Washington D.C (VNA) - US officials have reiterated the US’s policy of respecting independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, political system and development path of Vietnam during recent meetings with Vietnamese officials, said a Vietnamese diplomat.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc unveiled the information in an interview to a US-based Vietnam News Agency (VNA) correspondent after US representatives delivered speeches on socialism at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly on September 25.

The US’s policy on relations with Vietnam was also stated in the joint statement on the establishment of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, Ngoc elaborated.

He affirmed that Vietnam has pursued a policy of developing relations with all countries, including the US, on the basis of fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter.

Vietnam’s development path has been selected by the Vietnamese people, Ngoc said, adding that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people gained independence, national reunification and a lot of achievements in perfecting the law-governed socialist state, hence building a wealthy, strong, democratic, equal and civilized country.-VNA
