Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan had a meeting in Hanoi on May 6 with a delegation from the House of Representatives at the US Congress, led by Matt Salmon, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific of the House’s Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Salmon lauded Vietnam ’s impressive progress across a number of fields as well as the rising position of Vietnam in the regional and global arena.
He stated that the US attaches importance to implementing the comprehensive partnership with Vietnam , expressing his belief that the ties would continue to flourish.
For his part, Quan held that growth of the Vietnam-US ties over the past two decades have brought practical benefits to both peoples, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
He proposed that the US continue strengthening its coordination with Vietnam in resolving war aftermaths while fostering broadened bilateral collaboration. He also suggested that the US House of Representatives support and work for the early conclusion of Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations.
During the meeting, both host and guest shared opinions on regional and international issues of mutual concern.-VNA
