Vietnam has made a stride in bringing about better lives for people with disabilities, the Sai Gon Giai phong (Liberated Saigon) newspaper quoted Judith Heumann, Special Advisor for International Disability Rights at the US State Department, as saying on May 4.
The paper reported that at her meeting with Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan on May 4, Heumann said that Vietnam’s ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities shows the country’s strong commitment to respecting and protecting human rights and ensuring equality for all people.
The official also spoke highly of Ho Chi Minh City’s efforts to care for the disabled when being informed that the city always pays attention to social welfare policies, particularly those targeting the disabled.-VNA
