Hanoi (VNA) – US President Donald Trumpconvened a press conference at Marriot hotel in Hanoi on February following hismeeting with leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) KimJong-un.

Trump thanked the Vietnamese Government and people forsupporting his second summit with DPRK leader Kim, the DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit.

He said he and the DPRK leader discussed a number of issues,but it is not the right time to sign a joint statement, adding that he had aneffective time with Chairman Kim.

According to him, the obstacle in negotiations lies insanctions. The DPRK wants full removal of the sanctions but the US is yet to beable to meet such a demand.

However, he also affirmed the US is still interested inmaintaining ties with the DPRK.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, for his part, said the talksprogressed in the past 24-36 hours.

He added that the two sides’ working groups will meet innext weeks, and expressed his optimism that further progress will be made.
