Hanoi (VNA) – Politburo member,Minister of National Defence Ngo Xuan Lich hosted a reception for a Senate delegationfrom the US led by Vice Chairman of Appropriations Committee Senator PatrickLeahy in Hanoi on April 18.

The General expressed his belief that the visitwill help promote the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the US.

The bilateral defence partnership has beendeveloping, evidenced by delegation exchanges, training cooperation, experiencesharing in the UN peacekeeping activities, and addressing post-warconsequences, Lich said.

He spoke highly of Senator Patrick Leahy’scontributions to the bilateral cooperation in addressing war aftermaths, andhoped the US Senator will contribute more to the implementation of the dioxindetoxification project at Bien Hoa Airport in the southern province of DongNai, following the success of a similar project at Da Nang Airport in thecentral city of Da Nang.

Senator Patrick Leahy expressed his pleasure tocome back to Vietnam and said his trip aims to contribute to developing thebilateral relations.

He pledged to do his utmost to ensure thesuccess of the dioxin detoxification project at Bien Hoa Airport.-VNA
