Hanoi (VNA) - From March 9-27, over 30 senior experts from two charity organisations from the UK and the US visited and provided professional support for the Charity Surgery Program at Hong Ngoc General Hospital.

This is the first charity program of 2024, part of the "Wings of Dreams" program organized annually by the hospital in collaboration with the NUOY Organization (USA) and Facing The World (UK), providing free medical examinations and surgeries for patients with difficult circumstances, congenital deformities, and post-traumatic deformities on the face, neck, and limbs.

It is expected that about 60 patients will be examined, and those eligible will undergo surgery in this first phase with full support for all expenses for examinations and surgeries.

Professor Nguyen Phuong, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery (Children's Hospital Colorado), Head of the Department of Pediatric Plastic Surgery - Colorado State University School of Medicine, and Medical Director of the NUOY charity organisation, stated that long-term collaboration with hospitals in Vietnam, exemplified by this program, provides foreign doctors with opportunities to access and provide the best healthcare for the Vietnamese people.

"We hope to bring solutions and hope to poor patients, helping them access advanced healthcare services and improve their lives,” Phuong said. The program provides expertise and surgical skill training for Vietnamese doctors, so that patients can undergo the best surgeries with highly skilled local doctors without depending on foreign experts," he noted.

The patients who came for examination in the first phase are those with particularly difficult circumstances and no ability to self-treat.

One typical case is that of patient Tran Phuc Sinh (2012, Hung Yen), who had a traffic accident, causing extensive damage to the muscles in his forearm. He has undergone multiple examinations and surgeries to repair the skin and remove necrotic tissue.

The program aims to provide opportunities for patients with difficult circumstances to access quality medical treatment and the most optimal surgical methods, helping them to open up a new, brighter life.

After nearly 10 years, the program has provided opportunities for over 1,000 patients to be examined by world-leading surgical experts and performed surgeries for nearly 300 eligible cases.
