US, Vietnam to organise conference on environment solutions

The American Telecommunication Certification Body (ATCB) has reported that a number of US agencies and companies together with Vietnamese partners will organise a Conference on Environment Solutions backed by American Technology in Hanoi on May 25.
The American TelecommunicationCertification Body (ATCB) has reported that a number of US agencies andcompanies together with Vietnamese partners will organise a Conferenceon Environment Solutions backed by American Technology in Hanoi on May25.

The conference is designed to provide a showcaseof models, technologies and applications from the US environmentalindustry that can benefit Vietnam ’s economic development goals.

The report said: "We are bringing a trade delegation to the conferenceand working with key US government agencies, the US Embassy and theEmbassy of Vietnam to that end. We expect key decision makers fromvarious government ministries and US and Vietnamese businesses toattend. The timing is important as Vietnam is currently chairing the2010 ASEAN Summit in Hanoi this July and the issues discussed will havegreat value for the region.

"The conference will take a comprehensive look at the key environmentaland climate change issues from different vantage points, presented byboth business and government stakeholders. There is a real need for thesolutions that will be presented and we will work with key business,scientific, research and funding groups to provide solutions that willmost helpful to Vietnam."

Organisers include the American Council of Independent Laboratories,the Maryland-Asia Environmental Partnership, the WashingtonLaboratories, the American Telecommunication Certification Body, theI.M. Systems Group, the Columbia Analytical Services Inc., theWhiteford Taylor Preston, the Vietnam Administration of Seas andIslands and the Vietnam Directorate for Standards and Quality.

The report also said that the conference is timely as Vietnam strivesto become Southeast Asia ’s destination of choice for business andtourism.

A similar conference will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 27./.

Vietnam launches 13 mln USD project to phase out ozone-depleting substances

Funded by the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol and implemented through the World Bank (WB) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the project aims to help Vietnam meet its international commitments in managing and phasing out controlled substances. It will run from 2026 to 2031 with a total budget of over 13 million USD.

Solutions sought to restore Mekong Delta wetland ecosystems

Experts at the workshop described wetlands as the “ecological heart” of the Mekong Delta, playing a vital role in water storage and regulation, climate moderation, carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and livelihoods for millions of people through aquaculture, agriculture, and ecotourism.
