US war veterans help identify liberation soldiers’ mass grave

A five-member US war veterans’ delegation led by Dan Tocker arrived at Phuoc Tuong mountain pass in Phu Loc district of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on March 20 to identify a mass grave of liberation soldiers who died on duty at the US’ former Tomahawk artillery base.
A five-member US war veterans’ delegation led by Dan Tocker arrived at Phuoc Tuong mountain pass in Phu Loc district of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on March 20 to identify a mass grave of liberation soldiers who died on duty at the US’ former Tomahawk artillery base.

The delegation was joined by leaders from the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association, the Thua Thien-Hue Military Headquarters and Phu Loc district.

Dan Tocker was the one who directly instructed the bury of liberation soldiers at the base at the night of June 18, 1969.

He was able to define the site after four hours of searching all places he can remember and with documents he carried along with him.

He handed over all related documents to Vietnam ’s relevant sectors for future excavation.

Earlier, the US delegation visited the Khe Sanh Museum and the Ta Co airport in the central province of Quang Tri/.
