US Deputy Secretary of State Heather Higginbottom has affirmed that her country wishes to further promote its comprehensive partnership with Vietnam.

She said at a ceremony to receive a copy of credentials presented by newly-accredited Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh on December 5 that the two countries should strongly implement activities celebrating the 20 th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

Ambassador Vinh informed the host that his focal task during this tenure is to deepen the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, which was set up in July 2013.

According to the diplomat, the bilateral partnership has seen a number of positive results, with the US ’s partial lifting of arms ban against Vietnam and progress in Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations and cooperation in maritime security.

The two countries see a great potential to further promote their ties in nine key areas from economy, politics, defence and security to science, education and people-to-people exchange, for the benefits of their people as well as for peace, security and prosperity in the region and the world, he said.

He vowed that as a new Vietnamese ambassador to the US , he will do his utmost to foster collaboration between the US and ASEAN countries in such issues as economic integration and climate change.

Heather Higginbottom affirmed that her agency will create the best conditions for Vinh to fulfil his tasks and arrange a suitable time for him present credentials to President Barrack Obama.-VNA
