VGA headquarters opens in Thailand

The Vietnamese General Association in Thailand (VGA) opened its headquarters in Sakon Nakhon province on January 24.

The VGA was established in October, 2010, and was officially recognised by the Thai government in July 2012. It has cultivated cooperation between the two countries in economics, culture, education and tourism.

The opening of its new headquarters affirm VGA’s legitimacy as a social organisation operating in Thailand , helping develop the Vietnamese community in the country.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Governor of Sakon Nakhon province Boonsong Techamanisathit said the official recognition of VGA has created a legal foundation for the association and its branches across Thailand to operate officially.

The event also strengthens the friendship between the two countries, he added.

Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Thanh Son thanked the local authorities for supporting and creating conditions for Vietnamese people living in the region.

The opening of the VGA headquarters marks a new stage in the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand , said Son, who is also Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs.
