Warsaw (VNA) – Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh affirmed women’s important role in national development in her speech delivered at the opening ceremony of the 26th Global Summit of Women in Warsaw, Poland, on June 9.

Themed “Women: Building an Inclusive Economy in the Digital Age”, the three- day event brought together nearly 1,000 delegates.

Though women are improving their positions, the number of women doing as managers and in leadership in the globe still remains low, around 24 percent of the total, Thinh stressed.

She talked about opportunities and challenges brought about by the digital age for women, especially female entrepreneurs during global commercialization.

Female entrepreneurs should exert more efforts to improve themselves and be more creative, Thinh suggested.

She also briefed participants on Vietnam’s achievements on gender equality, as well as the country’s policies to raise the positions of women and encourage them to involve in all fields of the society.

To develop an inclusive economy, each nation should carry out policies to encourage women to take part in leading and managing the country, while facilitating their full access to education, vocational training, and IT and equipping them with management and leadership skills, she recommended.

Women themselves should improve their knowledge, and management and leadership capacity, as well as actively participating in national target programmes, especially those dedicated to women and girls, in order to contribute to implementing sustainable development goals, she added.

During the three-day summit, a ministerial roundtable on public-private partnership in boosting economic opportunities for women and girls, a forum of the future of cities, and several discussion panels will be organised.-VNA
