Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan on October 21 paid a courtesy visit to WTO General Director Pascal Lamy to strengthen relations between Vietnam and the world largest economic body.
The visit was made just after Doan arrived in Geneva , Switzerland , to attend the 13 th Francophone Summit scheduled for October 23-24 in Montreux.
The Vice State President highly valued the WTO leader’s role for the Doha negotiation round and suggested him create conditions for Vietnam to well implement its commitments when joining the WTO and enjoy benefits from the organisation.
She also asked for Pascal Lamy’s support for Vietnam to have a representative in the WTO Secretariat.
For his part, Pascal Lamy said Vietnam ’s WTO admission is a great success and the WTO always provides technical support for Vietnam as well as other members when joining the organisation. He promised to try his best to assist Vietnam .
On the same day, Vice State President Doan accompanied by over 50 representatives of Vietnamese businesses heard a report by the Vietnamese Mission to the UN, WTO and other international organisations in Geneva on several WTO activities relating to Vietnam , including the Doha negotiation round and dispute resettlement mechanism at WTO.
On October 22, the Vietnamese delegation is expected to attend the Vietnam-Switzerland Business Forum before leaving for Montreux for the Francophone Summit./.
