Minister Counselor Le Thi Minh Thoa, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN (Photo: VNA) Addressing the session themed “Equal access to justice forall: advancing reforms for peaceful, just and inclusive societies”, MinisterCounselor Le Thi Minh Thoa, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to theUN, said that equal access to justice plays an important role in ensuringjustice and equity, contributing to the achievement of the overarching goal ofthe 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
According to her, in Vietnam, free or affordable legal aidservices are available to ensure the equal supply of opportunities for allpeople. Many programmes have been implemented to raise public awareness, eliminatediscrimination, and support women, children, people with disabilities andethnic minorities.
In order to ensure transparency, accountability and fairnessin the administration of justice, the judicial system has been continuouslystrengthened, she said, adding that Vietnam has also improved the capacity ofits legal staff and applied technology to modernise court processes andfacilitate online proceedings so that justice can be easily accessed by allcitizens.
The Vietnamese representative also shared lessons learned inaddressing the root causes of injustice such as poverty and inequality,ensuring inclusive economic growth, and improving social welfare and equalopportunities so that everyone can participate in the development process.
On this occasion, she emphasised the need to intensify internationalcooperation, and share experiences, knowledge and resources to promote a globalenvironment where justice is accessible to all.
The UNGA debate was chaired by Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Vietnam’sPermanent Representative to the UN, who is Vice President of the 77th UNGA session./.
