Vietnam Airlines has said it has cancelled four flights between Hanoi and Taipei , and Ho Chi Minh City and Taipei as of July 31 due to tropical storm Saola.

The airline also said it is likely to cancel six additional flights to Taipei on August 1-2.

About 1,600 passengers who are affected by those cancelled flights will be arranged to fly in regular or additional flights scheduled for August 2.

Currently, Vietnam Airlines operates two Hanoi-Taipei flights and two Ho Chi Minh- Taipei flights every day.

Taiwan on July 31 warned that approaching Typhoon Saola was likely to bring heavy rains and trigger landslides on the island after it killed eight people in the Philippines, according to AFP.

As of 1230 GMT on July 31, Saola was 330 kilometres (205 miles) east of Eruanpi, the southernmost tip of the island.

The storm pounded the Philippines on July 30, leaving millions of people without power and forcing the authorities to evacuate more than 145,000 people./.
