Hanoi (VNA) – The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines plans to open a direct flight route to the US in 2018, said its General Director Duong Tri Thanh.
Vietnam Airlines has been preparing for the route for a decade as the company has focused on enhancing its service quality with bigger fleets, including two new generation airplanes, namely the Airbus A350-900 and Boeing B787 Dreamliner.
The company is coordinating with local aviation authorities to implement the plan.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAA), domestic air carriers can only open a direct flight to the US if Vietnam gains Ratification CAT 1 of the US’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The CAA is working with aviation inspectors from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Vietnam as well as the FAA to help the national flag carrier obtain the CAT.-VNA
