Buenos Aires (VNA) – Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Dinh Quy and his Argentinean counterpart Carlos Foradori chaired the seventh political consultation between the two countries in Buenos Aires on December 5.

The two sides lauded the sound bilateral cooperation and pledged to expand partnerships.

They reviewed the implementation of the agreements reached at the fifth meeting of the Vietnam-Argentina inter-governmental committee on economic, trade and science-technology cooperation, which took place in Hanoi earlier this month.

Foradori voiced his wish to bolster relations with Asian-Pacific countries and to join the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

He and Quy agreed to continue enhancing their nations’ coordination at multilateral forums, including the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation.

They emphasised the importance of peaceful settlement of disputes on the basis of international law and the United Nations Charter.

They also discussed issues relating to regional integration, migration, human trafficking and organised crime.

Vietnam and Argentina set up diplomatic relations on October 25, 1973. They have enjoyed growing ties in recent years, especially in trade.

Vietnam is a leading Asian trade partner of Argentina. Bilateral trade hit 2.5 billion USD in 2015, a year-on-year increase of 27 percent. The figure is expected to reach 3 billion USD this year.-VNA
