Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, joined the Vietnamese delegation to the event, which attracted representatives from governments, employers and employees from 180 member countries and territories of the ILO.
The two-week conference will focus on the realisation of the 2015-2016 ILO Programme and Budget, the transitions from the informal to the formal economy and the implementation of strategic social security objectives.
This year’s event is also a forum for delegations to engage in open dialogues on social and labour issues which remain key global priorities.
During the plenary sessions of the conference, delegations will discuss reports from the ILO Director-General on the implementation of social policy programmes.
In recent years, ILO reports have addressed issues of social welfare, social equality in the global economy and sustainable development.
Founded in 1910, the ILO became the first technical organisation to merge with the United Nations (UN) in 1946.
The annual ILC will run through June 13.-VNA
