Vietnam attends Int’l Defence Dialogue 2011

A Vietnamese military delegation, led by Lieut. Gen. Tran Thai Binh, Director of the Institute of Military Strategy under the Defence Ministry attended the Jakarta International Defence Dialogue 2011 that opened on March 23.

Themed, “Strengthening security and stability”, the event drew theparticipation of 1,300 delegates, including defence ministers andmilitary officers from 34 countries throughout the world.

Addressing the ceremony, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyonounderlined that world peace and security are currently facing newchallenges, evidenced by tensions on the Korean peninsula, theThai-Cambodian border dispute, Middle East instability, Somali piracyattacks, and radiation threats after the earthquake and tsunami inJapan.

He urged the world to cooperate more closely to deal with old and new challenges.

The three-day event aims to gather high-ranking military leaders,experts and policy makers from the Asia-Pacific region to fosterregional stability in the future, to promote cooperation amonggovernments to deal with international and regional security threats aswell as create a strategic model for defence and security./.
