Lao Cai (VNA) - Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu, and a delegation of National Assembly (NA) deputies of the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai met with local voters on December 17, following the 15th NA’s freshly-ended 10th session.

Speaking at the meeting, Tu emphasised that the feedback gathered from voters is crucial for informing policies, improving governance, and addressing local challenges.

He emphasised that local authorities at all levels must prioritise addressing citizens' legitimate concerns swiftly and effectively. Citing the instructions of Party General Secretary To Lam, he underscored the Party’s guiding principle of placing the people at the centre of all policies and decisions, and that all actions are in service of the people.

Lao Cai must continue to prioritise the building of a truly clean and strong Party and political system, advance the implementation of socio-economic development tasks, and ensure the mobilisation of all available resources to meet growth targets, the Secretariat’s permanent member emphasised.

He went on to say that the focus should be on proposing and implementing unique mechanisms and policies, ensuring synchronised development, fully utilising the province's potential and advantages, speeding up the progress of key infrastructure projects, particularly those connecting different areas within the province, and bettering national defence, security, and foreign affairs.

Lao Cai should also continue to intensify its implementation of the Party Central Committee’s directives, including those related to streamlining the organisational apparatus and optimising the organisation of the two-tier local administration model, he stated, adding that digital transformation and administrative reforms must be accelerated to improve governance and efficiency.

Tu also emphasised the importance of reviewing, developing, and perfecting regulations on decentralisation and delegation of authority to ensure they align with real-world conditions and avoid overlap.

He also highlighted the importance of maintaining discipline and order in leadership, management, and operations, and promoting coordinated efforts to combat corruption, wastefulness, and negative phenomena.

He called for breakthroughs in economic development and strategic infrastructure, suggesting the province aim for a GRDP growth rate of over 10% by 2026, prioritise key projects to enhance international trade routes, and capitalise on the Kunming - Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong economic corridor to boost the border economy.

Lao Cai must continue investing in cultural and social development, focusing on sustainable welfare, poverty reduction, and improving education and healthcare, especially in remote areas. The province should also preserve ethnic cultures and build a green, harmonious, and prosperous community, he added.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, who joined the delegation, witnessed the donation of 13.5 billion VND (512,600 USD) from the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group (Petrovietnam) to Lao Cai to support the building of three STEM education practice classrooms as well as the upgrade of an education facility affected by natural disasters. Additionally, the Vietnam Petroleum Group pledged an additional 5 billion VND for educational projects in the province./.
